GameTan is a Pasifika family-owned social enterprise dedicated to creating meaningful opportunities for young people through gaming, technology, and community.
We specialise in designing and delivering engaging, culturally relevant programs that connect with young people where their interests already exist, helping them build confidence, develop real-world skills, and discover new pathways for their future.
Our Story
GameTan began with a story that is familiar to many Pasifika families across South Auckland — a story built on sacrifice, resilience, and the hope of creating better opportunities for the next generation.
As a Pasifika family-owned social enterprise, our journey is rooted in growing up in Māngere, surrounded by hardworking parents who spent long hours working in cleaning jobs to provide for their families. Their sacrifices shaped our values and gave us a strong desire to give back to the communities that raised us.
Growing up, gaming was something many of us connected with. For some of us, it became more than just fun — it became something that took over our time. During those teenage years, gaming grew into an obsession, and school began to suffer, leading to failing NCEA Levels 1, 2, and 3.
But even in that struggle, something meaningful began to grow.
Curiosity led us beyond playing games into creating — learning how to edit videos, design graphics, and use tools like Photoshop and Illustrator. That curiosity grew into a passion for creativity and technology, opening our eyes to what was possible.
Later, through experiences like serving a Church mission overseas, we learned that real impact comes from listening to people, understanding their stories, and helping them believe in themselves.
Looking back, we saw how many young people in communities like Māngere had talent and potential but lacked safe spaces and guidance to turn their passions into opportunities.
That realisation became the foundation for GameTan.
GameTan was created by family, for community — to transform gaming into something purposeful. Today, we create spaces where culture, community, gaming, and technology come together to help young people feel supported, build confidence, and discover new pathways.
Because for us, this has never just been about gaming — it has always been about people.
Meet The Team
Raynor Cocker
Founder & Director
Raynor was the visionary behind the early beginnings of GameTan, bringing a strong passion for gaming and technology that helped shape its original direction. Through gaming, he developed technical skills that led him to learning how to build, repair, and troubleshoot PCs — eventually leading him to pursue formal studies in Information Technology.
Now based in Australia with his family, Raynor continues to support GameTan as a Director and remains an important part of the foundation that guides the organisation today. In his free time, you’ll likely find him gaming, keeping up with new tech, or spending quality time with his family.
Winston Cocker
Co-Founder & CEO
Winston’s journey began through competitive gaming, where years of dedication led to earning money playing in MW2 and MW3 tournaments. He later reached Master Rank 26 in Black Ops 2 (Top 26 in Oceania) and most recently achieved Eternity rank in Marvel Rivals, becoming Oceania’s #1 Captain America player.
Over time, playing turned into creating, as he taught himself video editing and graphic design, eventually moving into freelance design and discovering the opportunities behind technology.
Growing up in Māngere, he saw the need for spaces where young people feel supported and believed in — a vision that continues to drive GameTan today. Outside of GameTan, Winston enjoys spending time with his whānau and gaming when he gets the chance.
Mary Cocker
COO
Mary brings strong people skills and real-world experience from her work as a real estate agent, where building relationships and supporting families is at the heart of what she does. Her passion for helping people and connecting with communities plays an important role in supporting the work behind GameTan.
Alongside her real estate career, Mary contributes to GameTan by helping with organisation, coordination, and supporting the team where needed. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and supporting the growth of young people within the community.
